ABOUT MATTHEW TREMMEL

Matthew Tremmel is the founder and president of ProAero Technology.

An engineering professional with a proven talent for creating innovative solutions to complex technical problems, Mr. Tremmel is recognized for planning and implementing projects focused on delivering customer value.

With more than 12 years of experience in the practical application of CFD for helping to design and guide product development, Tremmel has a proven track record in problem solving and multidisciplinary task coordination. He also has a strong background in project management, multi-cultural work environments, design processes, manufacturing and performance testing.

Tremmel spent six years at the Westinghouse Electric Company in Orlando, FL where he designed and developed steam turbine components for the worldwide market. After the acquisition of Westinghouse by Siemens AG in 1998, Tremmel moved to the gas turbine division where he spent an additional six years developing and integrating the design tools from the two different companies. This involved several long-term projects in the areas of aerodynamics, heat transfer, design process and quality control for the design and development of industrial gas and steam turbines.

Tremmel's variety of experiences include:

Steam and Gas Turbine Design
Designed HP, IP, and LP steam turbine elements for fossil, nuclear, 50Hz, and 60Hz units.
Developed and managed design, manufacturing, and installation of a three-stage model air turbine for testing of advanced blading concepts.
Trained joint-venture partners Shanghai Turbine Company and Hyundai Heavy Industries in turbomachinery design.
Authored major updates to meanline analysis codes for bladepath design.
Guided development of gas turbine components and performed multistage CFD analysis of compressors and turbines.

Six Sigma-based Project Development and Management
Black Belt level training and experience in the application of the Six Sigma process to reduce time to market, increase quality, and reduce risk through industry-proven techniques.

Design Process Mapping and Improvement
First-of-kind complete product design process maps that capture the complicated interaction of multiple components, multiple engineering disciplines, and the various levels of fidelity of design tools.
Identified bottlenecks and subsequent areas of improvement.
Managed several projects to develop strategic, long-term solutions to improve design tools and processes

Some of his CFD experience includes:
- First application of 3D CFD to steam turbine blading in Westinghouse Electric using modified versions of Denton and Dawes codes.
- Application of commercial CFD codes to non-blading features of steam and gas turbines including inlets, exhausts, bleeds, and cavities.
- Calibration of CFD methods against test rig and full scale machines.
- Largest known application of multistage CFD code APNASA to industrial compressors, some as large as 35 blade rows.
- Development of streamlined processes and tools to leverage CFD earlier in product design

Tremmel earned a master of science degree in engineering mechanics and a bachelor of science in aerospace engineering from the University of Florida—Gainesville.

Professional memberships include:
